Metroid Sugar Cookie Mosaic

GoNintendo reader Nebula427 created this Metroid sugar cookie mosaic for a Halloween food contest at work. Unfortunately for Nebula 427 it didn’t win, but now he/she can aspire to internet fame! I wonder what you do with a cookie like that?

I’d hate to eat it.

The Bitter Meat Off His Bones

One of our former community members has allowed us to publish his Metroid Prime 2 fan fiction. It’s an extremely well written short story based on the Galactic Federation Soldiers in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. A big thanks to Andrew for taking the time to write such a brilliant story. Coarse language throughout.

The Bitter Meat off His Bones

By Andrew Walter

As the twenty-two Marines of the G.F.S. Tyr ambled in to the GFMC Compound for a sparing repast, the amethystine clouds loomed onward. Nobody had quite an inkling of what they were, but they were there nonetheless and they signified something of an evil nature.

It was a point of discussion, though. And after nearly a cycle, it was one of the few commonsensical ones left. Their rations packs–compressed to the brim with synthesized meat–were small, but

Just when you thought cake couldn’t get any better

Just when you thought cake couldn’t get any better

Debbie Goard of http://debbiedoescakes.net/ has recently completed a stunning groom’s cake in the shape of Samus’ helmet. I took the time to contact her about it and she was kind enough to let us know how it was made.

Samus Cake by Debbie Goard

The cake was a mint chip cake hand carved from round cakes ,

stacked , and iced in buttercream and then covered in fondant. The

metallic parts were made of belgian modelling chocolate and painted

with silver highlighter dust. The entire cake was airbrushed to add

color and dimension to the metallic parts as well. The cake was a

surprise for the Groom, he and the bride are huge fans of the game.

Best wishes to the bride and groom. You can see more of Debbie’s stunning cakes on her flickr channel

Update: The bride took the time to comment about the cake, you can see what the inside looks like as well as view more about what specifically the cake was sculpted from by visiting her blog: Judyonthenet.

Samus by Luís Melo

Artist’s Description: When I drew this picture I wanted to capture the old simple feel of the 8-bit game. It was nothing more than dark corridors, getting deeper and deeper, with strange colorful blobs of pixels as enemies. Your imagination did the rest.
I tried do do something in-between the very simple color and design of the original and what you can see today (I loosely referenced Samus’ suit from a couple of Metroid Prime pics), in search of something that isn’t an over-design of the concept and would still retain some of the crudeness of the 8-bit original impression I got as a kid.
