On August 12th MQ turned two years old, though the blog has only been on the web since Early last year, and only postings . In light of this anniversary we brought a few new surprises.

MQ in being re-branded into Conglometroid and is merging with Magatroid. We’re also working on setting up a Metroid Video Archive which will host clips, gameplay, and FMV sequences from all of the games in the series. We hope this will help bring about more fan created content as a result of easier access to the cut scenes in the Prime sub series.

On top of this we have established general pages for each game in the series and are working on compiling screen shots as well as reviews and other game data as well. Media intensive walkthroughs are also in the works but will be taking a backseat until the Metroid video archive is more or less completed due to obvious reasons.

We’re also setting up a gallery sub-site which will make viewing fan art much more pleasing. Stay tuned the next few weeks as we’ll be bringing you new articles for magatroid as well as new fan art.

Is it just me or did they just add the spring ball into Metroid Prime. It remains to be seen if the wii update will put a shutout on some of the traditional sequence breaking contained in Prime and Echoes.

This video is a bit more detailed and for the most part things still look the same as they did in the original Gamecube version. The US still has not been given a release date for the wii ports, and there has been no mention of bundling of the games themselves. We’ll see soon enough, for now we’ll have to stay content with these videos and delusions of revisiting Tallon IV and Aether in a whole new way.

With the completion of our sister site, Magatroid, settling down we now have an outlet for theoretical discussion of the series. As such we are now loosening the focus of Metroid Quarantine from Metroid News to encompass all metroid related material. We have also opted for a smoother gradient design that gives the website a softer feel.

This ranges from highlighting Metroid based projects such as fangames to showcasing Metroid fanwork. On top of this is a recent resurgence in the amount of Metroid based news to report on, as such we are opening up to the possibility of turning MQ into a Metroid Based Blog, including the opportunity for readers to make their own posts about the franchise. Don’t worry, the old Metroid Quarantine won’t be going away either, we’ll continue to report on Metroid news as well as maintain the quality of our posts, as such guests posts will face a small screening process to ensure the preservation of quality standards and copyright laws.

If you would like your Metroid based art, writing, fangame, or website to be featured then send us a line and we will personally look over it.

On top of this community influenced shift I’m proud to announce another Metroid based project that we will be unvieling in early November.

In a conference at Wedbush Morgan Securities annual Management Access Conference in New York, Nolan Bushnell, Atari’s founder, has declared to have found the most perfect and impenetrable encryption for games and computer programs. Not only this, but he is positive that said encryption will not be crackable, and that piracy will finally be immensely hindered.

In his own words,

“There is a stealth encryption chip called a TPM that is going on the motherboards of most of the computers that are coming out now. [...] What that says is that in the games business we will be able to encrypt with an absolutely verifiable private key in the encryption world – which is uncrackable by people on the internet and by giving away passwords – which will allow for a huge market to develop in some of the areas where piracy has been a real problem.”

In other words, the Trusted Computer Module’s* difference from previous encryption chips is that besides of its easy creation and accessibility, it will form an algorithm so complex that the software coding will not be accessible in any possible way, thus preventing “pirates” from stealing the product and gaining illegal profit from it.

Bushnell has clarified his intentions of mass producing the TPM and selling it to all those companies which desire to stop the black, illegal market from stealing their products. Many are already waiting for the final results from this beta encryption, expecting that if good results come out from the tests, the Holy Grail for software security encryption might have been finally found. “[...] games are so integrated with the code. The TPM will, in fact, absolutely stop piracy of gameplay,” said Atari’s founder.

Yet Nolan was very clear in that he won’t be able to stop movie and music piracy with his possibly miraculous creation. Quoting him, “if you can watch it and you can hear it, you can copy it.”

The shifting Atari company has changed from hand to hand since its creation, being right now a shared incorporation with 51% of its assets belonging to Infogamers Entertainment. On April 30 Atari, Inc., the remaining shared percentage of Atari, has shown intentions in finally selling their assets to Infogamers Entertaiment, ending Atari’s shifty history and making it a private company one and for all. This interesting economic move promises very important consequences, as the contracts that Atari, Inc. currently with gaming companies are at steak.

But with the creation and production of this new security stealth chip, Atari might have just found the right way to hold tightly together and maintain its prestigious place as one of the best gaming and software programming companies ever, honoring the glorious days of the Atari 2600, and a promising future to come.

===

* Yes, that is what TPM stands for. Not sure where the ‘P’ came from though. >.>
