I know what you’re thinking, and I doubt it. Now hold on, before you shoot me let me explain why. If you’re still flying under the radar the official japanese Metroid site has this little segment posted below the page. The japanese texts translates to “Follow the history of Metroid Prime from the perspective of the Space Pirates”. Now I’m not saying it couldn’t be a new game. It most certainly well could (more…)
Another update on the Metroid Prime “remake” for the Wii. A Japanese trailer has been released which showcases the controls involved while playing the game.
I was surfing the web the other day and came across a particularly interesting blog post on Reset Glitch that expressed some of my own concerns regarding the Metroid series. According to an IGN podcast Dread once existed but was canned. I agree with Reset Glitch that the Metroid series needs another 2D game to help revitalize the series, especially for some of the older fans. A general shift in the amount of Casual games Nintendo has been producing as of late should show cause for concern on their part. When the steam dies down in regards to casual gamers purchasing these types of games how far will Nintendo go to get me to dust off their latest system? And what am I to do for a doorstop if and when that happens?

Rounding up the year with a quick look back at 2008 fan creations. The Metroid Manga has been fully translated and 2009 should be another great year. Take a small glimpse at what we have in store for 2009.
It has been a relatively quiet year for Metroid fans. The excitement over Metroid Prime 3: Corruption seems to have died down and aside from gamecube to wii ports it seems not much is happening in the Metroid universe over at Nintendo.

Who doesn’t like Legos? I personally love it. Piecing stuff together is always entertaining, and creating toys on your own is always exiting and is sure to bring to life the small kid hidden inside every one of us (that is, unless you’re still a small kid). And since this is a Metroid blog, it’s logical for a Lego article to pop up eventually. Well, here it is.

It is a fact that Samus’s influence in common life references is growing, and that Metroid-related art and works have expanded and increased in number. Here we see yet another example of this cultural rush that Metroid is going through:

But wait, what is this article about? A red cabinet? What’s so special about that?
If you haven’t ever heard of crochet now is the time to get educated. A quick google for crochet will give you an astounding variety of of material from hats to handbags. Well it’s time to add another category to that list.

I shot the creator, Rin, an email about the dolls:
They’re crocheted with mercerized cotton and for now are OOAKs (one of a kind) as they were customized for a buyer. They’re around 4 inches in height!

First off wow! I don’t know about you but I want that in my video game collection. Nintendo could take a lesson from this guy on the concept of boxart.

GoNintendo reader Nebula427 created this Metroid sugar cookie mosaic for a Halloween food contest at work. Unfortunately for Nebula 427 it didn’t win, but now he/she can aspire to internet fame! I wonder what you do with a cookie like that?
I’d hate to eat it.
One of our former community members has allowed us to publish his Metroid Prime 2 fan fiction. It’s an extremely well written short story based on the Galactic Federation Soldiers in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. A big thanks to Andrew for taking the time to write such a brilliant story. Coarse language throughout.
The Bitter Meat off His Bones
By Andrew Walter
As the twenty-two Marines of the G.F.S. Tyr ambled in to the GFMC Compound for a sparing repast, the amethystine clouds loomed onward. Nobody had quite an inkling of what they were, but they were there nonetheless and they signified something of an evil nature.
It was a point of discussion, though. And after nearly a cycle, it was one of the few commonsensical ones left. Their rations packs–compressed to the brim with synthesized meat–were small, but (more…)
