Take us to your Leader

Recommended Posts

As more multi-cellular creatures give way and rise up in the planet of earth casts of positions seem to erupt in each society in some form. Why is there always a leader? Even in the most independant of communities there is always some leader that takes on the responsibilities and becomes the figure-head of said group. Why? Why is it in animal instinct that there must be some leader to look to? It's as if they are meant to be that way on a cellular level, even if said leader is some made up diety of some sort. Why does it seem to be instinct, a need almost, for creatures on earth to have a leader?

Because they are more productive and can survive better in a group. The leader is there to keep the group in order and prevent them from going into chaos, at least a good one does. It is all just a survival technique, when in a well governed group survival is easier.

Because evolution seeks perfection and survival of the fittest, aka the most perfect. Animal communities almost always center upon those who meet the best the evolutionary standards, which by this same advantage over the others simply impose themselves as the best example of their species or group, and instinctively become and are accepted as leaders.

Going further down into this trend of analysis, we might then question why is there always something better than the rest? Well, the answer to that is in DNA. It's not perfect, nor is it repetitive. Each DNA is unique and each combination of nucleotides that differs from specimen to specimen creates changes that are then to be evaluated by evolution. If approved, the species advances and the specimen becomes a natural leader. If ignored, the specimen is one more of the herd. If disapproved, the specimen becomes a mutant and is either shunned, killed, or bumped from the group.

What Iko said.

Humans may be fleeting from that evolutionary trend however; we do just fine without any actual leaders, just a few people working in the shadows to hold society in a neat and civilized plaster (and threaten death if things get out of hand). Notice also how just about every single dictator who ever ruled was seen as being evil/insane/a terrible monster who could never be fit to rule. 'Course, we still have some remnants of the old trend, such as the concept of god.

I think Sour basically hit the nail on the head with this one, though.

And he summed it up in the simplest way possible.
